Insurance Plan

If you are seeking to get treatment covered by an insurance plan, please, do read the following instructions carefully before you contacting us or making an appointment!

YOU must verify your own Insurance Benefits!

Before you contact us or make an appointment, patients MUST contact their insurance company to determine your eligibility for acupuncture treatment. If your insurance coverage can not be verified at the time of service, you will be required to make full payment upfront.  As a courtesy, our staff will provide any necessary documentation so that you may request a refund or reimbursement from your insurance provider.  In the event there is any issue regarding your insurance, it is your responsibility to contact your insurance provider to rectify the issue.

STEP 1

To determine your acupuncture benefits, we recommend you first calling the member service phone number generally found on the back of your insurance card, and asking the following questions:

  • Do I have acupuncture benefits?

  • Is there a restriction on diagnosis?  (Generally, musculoskeletal pain syndromes are covered by insurance. However, other areas such as infertility, emotional disorders, hormone disorder, child growth, and skin disease are not traditionally covered by insurance.)

  • How many visits are allowed in a calendar year?

  • Are these visitations limits combined with other kinds of therapy?
(Often acupuncture and chiropractic treatments share calendar year visitation limits.)

  • Am I subject to paying a co-pay or co-insurance?

    • A co-pay is the flat amount you will pay at each visit.

    • A co-insurance is the percentage you will owe after the insurance company pays the provider (us) AFTER YOUR DEDUCTIBLE HAS BEEN MET.

  • What is my deductible and how much of it have I met?

STEP 2

Please, ask your insurance company to send you your benefit plan forms or any documents that clearly indicate your current year's acupuncture benefit and available coverage.  Once you obtain this documentation, please, send it to us through our "Contact Page" so we may schedule your appointment.

Thank you.

Our Suggestions:

If you have a PPO insurance plan, there is a good chance you have coverage for out-of-network health care. If this is the case with your plan, we can provide you with a coded "superbill" that you can submit to your insurance company in order to receive reimbursement directly.

Traditional herbal medicine, herbal consultations, nutritional counseling, cupping, cupping massage, moxibustion (warming of points), and other therapies (special modalities) are not typically covered by insurance.  However, these therapies are very helpful for many symptoms, so we recommend considering additional treatments through cash plans.

There are so many options today, deciding the best approach to improve your health can be difficult.  Since both time and money are limited for many of us, it is important for us to help people make educated choices.  If you are not sure which is the best therapy for you to pursue, we can discuss your healthcare options during your initial appointment.
